Good evening all,
I’ve been alerted by a couple of members that support staff has received a request from administration like below:
–A pattern of absences has been observed during your scheduled in-district related service Thursday responsibilities. The dates you were expected to report in-person and were absent to help support-related service Thursdays are listed below:-Please submit a doctor’s note for these days to Amanda Sanderson in Human Resources by ——————————.
My respectful response would be our contract language:
“Sick leaves of four (4) or more consecutive days shall require medical verification and such medical verification should be presented on the 4th consecutive day of absence or as soon as practical thereafter. Failure to provide a required medical verification will result in the denial of additional requested sick days beyond the initial three (3) days for such claimed illness.”
If anyone should reach out to you please advise and remind them there is no need to feel intimidated nor rushed to respond especially if they believe they have received such an email in error. I suggest that they 1st respectfully respond with contractual language and wait for the district’s response if any. If further attention is necessary we can assist. If any disciplinary action is taken against any member we should be aware of it. Our members, AT ALL TIMES, HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE UNION REPRESENTATION!!!
Please let me know if members in your buildings have received the same and/or similar emails. I’d like to compile a list of such requests.
