EA COUNCIL RANK AND FILE FACEBOOK POST
Hi All:
I hear and feel your anxieties over the current situation, and I want you all to know that your concerns are a mirror of our concerns. The board and the district’s administration will ultimately decide on our fall re-opening soon. Please know that our union will be there to echo your concerns and advocate for the health and safety of our staff, teachers, students, and our families.
To help address some questions, I am emailing (to the personal e-mails the union has on file) this statement along with an additional update, which includes a listing of committee members as well as informational links associated with the FFCRA.
Finally, on the board meeting agenda for this Monday 7/20 there are motions to hire:
51 – custodians 26 – permanent substitutes 79 – noon hour personal Plus, several motions for the purchase of protective gear and supplies under B & G
In Unity,
Union Leadership
If you or a family member are medically fragile, there are options:
FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE ACT (FMLA): If you have underlying conditions and CANNOT be accommodated to return to work, you may be able to use up to twelve weeks of FMLA for your absence. These would use your sick days.
FAMILIES FIRST CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE ACT (FFCRA):
*If you have Covid symptoms — or are subject to a federal, state or local quarantine — you are entitled to 14 days of full pay (up to 80 hours) that DOES NOT use your sick days.
*If you must care for someone who has Covid symptoms, you may be entitled to 14 days (up to 80 hours) of 2/3 of your regular pay.
*If your child’s daycare or school is closed you may be entitled to 12 weeks of 2/3 rate of regular pay.
The links below addresses FFCRA in more detail, but that is the basic understanding of the FFCRA.

Our Executive Board and House of Delegate members have also been involved in innumerable advisory meetings (starting 5/13 meeting weekly through 7/15) where our thoughts and concerns have been expressed to the District’s administration, including meetings between the entire House of Delegates and Dr. Norrell and other District administration. Throughout the summer, members have been reaching out to building representatives with questions and concerns, which we have been bringing those forward to building administration in efforts to uphold and improve safety practices. And thank you to everyone who has participated in the planning and advisory committees. Here are members who shared their voices in a wide variety of groups.
